What Is Jurassic World?
Although Universal opened to the public in the summer of 1990, it wasn’t until 2019 that Jurassic Park World opened.
Jurassic World is a section of Universal Orlando Resort that transports you into a prehistoric environment. The theme park was based on the Jurassic Park movie series that has built a cult following. People enjoy this part of the resort since it takes them to another time and environment.
Not only does Jurassic World have some of the best rides, but they also help people learn about their prehistoric past. The Jurassic Park Discovery Center is a great first stop so you know what dinos you encounter through the jungle experience.
Dinosaurs roam the jungles freely in this realm since they “broke through the security measures.” No one is at real risk since the dinosaurs are all made with technology, but you will still have surprising moments!
The VelociCoaster
The VelociCoaster is one of the most popular rides in this realm of Universal.
This crazy, dino-inspired ride reaches a speed of 70 miles per hour! You’ll be speeding through the beautiful and exotic jungles of the Jurassic period, trying to escape the Velociraptors. What makes this ride so memorable and unique is that it provides a 360-degree point-of-view.
Universal developed this rollercoaster to create it as exciting as the movie. They followed the flows and acceleration from the Jurassic Park movies to help make riders feel like they’ve been immersed at the moment.
The VelociCoaster Story
This fast and engaging rollercoaster is meant to take place before the time of the Jurassic World movie.
From the minute you enter the ride, you’ll see bronze sculptures depicting some of the movie’s most famous dinosaurs. Blue, Delta, Echo, and Charlie will follow you through the ride and eventually come face-to-face with each rider.
The fast speeds and lack of brakes make for an exciting trip around Jurassic world. The entire purpose of the ride is to help riders experience something like what the actors did in the movies. Each time you encounter a new section, you can learn more about the Velociraptors and the types of predators they were.
Keep the Kids in Mind
Many children grow up loving dinosaurs and get interested in them when they watch Jurassic Park movies.
Although there aren’t specific age limits to ride the VelociCoaster, there are height limits. If your children are under 4 foot 3 inches, they won’t be able to go on the ride. Fortunately, there is a waiting space for the children to watch as the adults speed down and around the tracks.
If you want to get your kids excited about Jurassic World and going on the VelociCoaster, you should book a room at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort. These rooms were designed with one thing in mind— Dinosaurs. Velociraptors, T-Rex, and Pteranodons cover the walls and ceilings.
It helps to have your child watch people go on the ride a few times before jumping on. Since this rollercoaster is so fast, large, and moves in all directions, they may need time to prepare.
Why Velociraptors?
Velociraptors are one of the most featured types of dinosaurs including in the Jurrasic Park series.
There are more than 22 versions of velociraptors throughout the coaster that will make them come to life. The Velociraptors chase riders through the ride, making people feel like they are trying to escape a dangerous situation.
The Velociraptors are called the dromaeosaurs, a group of dinosaurs. These dinosaurs, like Velociraptors, lived in the late Jurassic period and were closely related to birds. They were often included in the movies and theme parks because they would have been a relevant threat to humans during that era.
The Struggles
The VelociCoaster was a challenging ride to build since there was limited space from other attractions.
Aside from other rides, buildings, and rest areas they were also working around a small body of water. There is a 360-degree spin rotating just above the water, adding to the excitement of the ride.
Hundreds of contractors and teams worked on the VelociCoaster to bring the ride concept to life. It took many tools and innovative plans to carry out the difficult logistics of completing the project.
Near the completion of the project, the COVID pandemic began, causing a halt to the construction process. Fortunately, the team could complete more work without going around guests since the theme park was temporarily shut down. Although they had to keep their distance, work was still getting completed.
What Else Will You Encounter?
BD Wong, Chris Pratt, and Blue (the most recognizable dinosaur) are included in the VelociCoaster ride.
Animated raptor figures that breathe on guests, scream, and move around the riders also keep people on their feet. This creates a life-like experience for the riders. They even went into such detail, that they ensure each person can smell what a Velociraptor smells like!
One of the creators focused on creating the correct habitat for Jurassic World. The plants, flowers, and rock figures were all designed to mimic the film and setting’s environment.
