“You’re a wizard, Harry.” From the moment those words echoed through movie theaters worldwide, to the fans eagerly queuing outside bookstores to dive into the latest release, Harry Potter has captivated enthusiasts of all ages.
The Harry Potter books have sold over 600 million copies across the globe and have been translated into 85 languages. In 2023, the Harry Potter book series also celebrated its 25th anniversary. It transports the young and the young at heart to a world of magic and wonderment.
Harry Potter has permeated nearly every facet of popular culture, even the iPhone. With Harry Potter Siri commands, you can bring a touch of magical wizardry to your everyday life. Learn more about these fun Siri Harry Potter spells below.
Lumos
In the Harry Potter world, Lumos is the incantation used to create a beam of light from the tip of a wand. Likewise, you can use “Hey Siri, Lumos!” as one of the Harry Potter Siri commands. Since Siri is a stickler for correct pronunciation, you’ll want to say it as “loo-mows”.
This command turns on your device’s flashlight to help you see better in the dark. It’s like having your own magic wand to light your way on your next trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. The Lumos command is one of 3 pre-set Harry Potter spells for Siri.
Nox
Now that you know the command for turning on your iPhone’s light, you probably also want to know how to turn it off. This is simple enough to do. You would just say “Hey Siri, Nox!” and the light will turn off again.
This is the second of the three pre-set Harry Potter commands you can find on iPhone. You’ll want to pronounce Nox as “knocks” to ensure Siri hears the command properly. The “Hey Siri” command works on all previous iPhone models, but for iOS 17 models, you only need to say “Siri.”
Accio
Accio in the wizarding world is used to summon something like an object. You would say “Accio” and the name of the object you wish to summon. Pronounce Accio as “ack-ee-oh.”
In terms of Harry Potter Siri commands, Accio is a fun way to open an app on your iPhone with Harry Potter flair. You would simply say “Hey Siri, Accio _____” with the name of the app you want to open. For example, if you want to open your Spotify app, say “Hey Siri, Accio Spotify!”
Additional iPhone Hacks for Harry Potter Siri Commands
The three Harry Potter spells for Siri above come standard on iPhone. But with some ingenuity, thanks to the Shortcuts App, you can create additional Harry Potter Siri commands. Here’s how.
In the app, create a new shortcut. Then, add the required action or actions required for the command. Save these shortcuts as the desired Siri Harry Potter spells. You can use the following Harry Potter Siri commands.
Lumos Maxima
Lumos Maxima is similar to the Lumos spell above. The difference is that Lumos turns your flashlight on to the default brightness and Lumos Maxima turns it on to maximum brightness.
To enable this setting, go to the Shortcuts app and add “Set Flashlight” as the desired action. Set it to turn on, then adjust it to “Max Brightness.” Save this action in your shortcuts as Lumos Maxima.
Silencio
Silencio is Spanish for silence. Something Rubeus Hagrid could have used in the Sorcerer’s Stone to keep himself from divulging information about getting past Fluffy. While not exactly reminiscent of the wizarding world, it’s still a neat spell of sorts for quieting a noisy iPhone.
Saying “Hey Siri, Silence” will turn off your alarms. However, if you set a special shortcut, you can create a way to set “Do Not Disturb” mode on your phone with the Silencio command.
In the Shortcuts app, go to the “Set Focus” action and turn the “Do Not Disturb” mode to “ON” until “Turned Off.”
Sonorus
Sonorus is an amplification spell used to make a target’s voice louder. On your iPhone, it can help you turn up your phone’s volume. This can be especially beneficial if you are in a noisy area.
To do this, add the Set Volume” action. Then, set your volume level to 100%.
Quietus
Quietus is the opposite of the Sonorus amplification command. It’s a way to easily return your volume to the previous volume setting before amplification. You can set it to match your typical iPhone volume or simply choose a moderate level, such as 50%.
In Shortcuts, add the “Set Volume” action. Then, set it to “50%” or whatever is your desired level.
Muffliato
Sometimes you may not want other Muggles to hear your phone call. For this, you can use the Muffliato command. It effectively helps you turn the volume down on your call while also employing background sounds to make your phone call more private.
This can come in handy if you don’t have the Universal Orland Express Pass and you’re stuck waiting in line and want to use this time to make some phone calls. Go to the Shortcuts app and add the “Set Volume” action. Then, change it to a low amount, like 50%.
You can also add the “Set Background Sound” action, and set it to turn “On.” Then, go to the “Change Background Sound” action, and set it to whatever sound you want, like “Balanced Noise.” Finally, add the “Set Background Sounds Volume” action and configure it to a soft level, such as “10%.”
Point Me
The Point Me spell is one of the most basic Harry Potter Siri commands. Its purpose is to open the Compass app on your iPhone to direct you where to go.
To set this option, go to Shortcuts and add “Open App” as an action. Then, select “Compass” as the app.
Reducio
The Reducio charm for your iPhone is an easy and quick way to reduce the size of your display’s text. This can save you from prying eyes lurking over your shoulder to read your emails and texts.
In the Shortcuts app, add the “Set Text Size” action. Then, set the size to a preferred option smaller than your usual text size.
Engorgio
The opposite of the Reducio spell is Engorgio. As you may have guessed, this spell enlarges text and images on your iPhone screen for better visibility.
It’s pretty much the same setup in regards to the Reducio spell. Go to add the “Set Text Size” action as before. Next, adjust the text size to your preferred setting.
Sternius
Sternius is just one of those fun, but not necessarily useful iPhone hacks. This command makes your iPhone sound like it’s sneezing by playing an audio file.
Under the Shortcuts app, add the “File” action. Select an audio file of someone sneezing. Then, add the “Play Sound” action.
Homenum Revelio
Homenum Revelio or human reveal can help you find your friends and family contacts nearby. It’s a Harry Potter take on the Find My Friends app.
To set it up, you will need to add the “Open URLs” action in the Shortcuts app. Set the URL to “findmyfriends://” or “fmf1://. “This allows you to open Find My Friends and view the locations of your close contacts.
Vermillious or Periculum
Vermillious and Periculum are ways of calling for help in the wizarding world. Your iPhone already has an Emergency SOS feature. However, in addition to sending alert texts to your emergency contacts, it also automatically calls 911.
To set up alerts to your emergency contacts without dialing 911, use the Vermillious “In Case of Emergency” shortcut. Simply add the “In Case of Emergency” shortcut from the Shortcuts app gallery. Configure it with only the information you want.
You can also create a manual shortcut from scratch by going to “Add the “Contacts” action and then choosing your desired contacts. Include the “Get Current Location” action, then add a “Text” action to enter your SOS message.
After that, add a “Send Message” action, where you can format the message using the Text and Current Location variables, along with any additional text. Format the message as “[Text] I’m located at [Street] [City] [State] [ZIP].” Finally, send the message to the Contacts variable.
Vermillious Duo
Vermillious Duo is similar to the Vermillious command above. Only this shortcut allows you to set multiple emergency contacts. You would use the same steps above and just add more contacts.
Vermillious Tria
The Vermillious Tria is one more step above the Duo option. This emergency contact hack lets you send emergency contact info to a whole group.
Use the “In Case of Emergency” shortcut and add your contact group. Send your current location and any instructions to your contacts. Additionally, display a message to first responders.
